The Applied Environmental Science Program (AESP) was established at Miner Institute in 1972 by the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. The basic model for teaching is "Show me, and I’ll look. Tell me, and I’ll listen. Involve me, and I’ll learn." Featuring courses taught on a full-day basis, the AESP allows integration of theory developed in lectures with hands-on experience in indoor and outdoor labs dealing with soil, water, forestry, and the agricultural environment interface. Students utilize the computer and chemical laboratory facilities at Miner Institute. Classes make full use of Miner Institute’s vast acreage, including the Altona Flat Rock, as well as the neighboring Adirondacks, to collect and analyze samples and integrate the information into polished reports.
Students can round out their educational experience by living on the Miner campus. Learn more about the residential facilities at Miner Institute.
