Students in the Chazy Central Rural School Drama Club demonstrated their resilience and adaptability in their recent production of Game of Myths at the Joseph C. Burke Education and Research Center stage -- which has likely not seen a theatrical production in decades, if ever.
The students would typically perform in the school auditorium, which is currently being renovated and is not available. They rehearsed through October and November at the Sacred Heart Church Hall and then came to Miner Institute's stage in December. The students were determined to have a show and would not let a small detail like lack of venue get in their way. Drama Club Advisor Kathryn Brown wasn't about to disappoint the kids and contacted Miner to see if we might be willing to let them use our space. We are pleased to have been able to accommodate them. They helped us to learn that we can adapt and improvise too!
It was such a fantastic opportunity to bring some youthful energy to the space and most importantly, to allow the students the opportunity to perform. There are so many lessons that can be learned in drama club that participants will carry through their life and this year, an added benefit was understanding how to be flexible and to persevere even when conditions are less than ideal.
At the end of Sunday afternoon's final show, Mrs. Brown told the crowd that she wanted to thank Mr. Miner. She recognized his contributions to the community and his appreciation and support of the arts. It was a touching tribute to the man who made it all possible. We owe him our gratitude and will proudly continue to carry on his legacy.
