Celebrating Women in STEM

Writer: Rachel DutilRachel Dutil

A recent collaboration with our friends from the Point Au Roche State Park Nature Center brought about 75 people to Miner Institute to participate in a myriad of science activities with partners from across the North Country.

The event was especially popular amongst local girl scouts who earned a science badge by participating in the fun educational event! In addition to Miner Institute and Point Au Roche Nature Center, Franklin County Soil & Water, Endyne Labs, Lake Champlain Basin Program, North Country Planetarium, and Lake Champlain Maritime Museum all participated in the event. Activities included making sand art to replicate soil; learning about different types of rice with a taste test of traditional white rice and a Japanese sticky rice; and seeing how water flows through a model basin system. It was so energizing to see children and families getting excited about science and celebrating some of the women trailblazers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers!

We look forward to participating in this great event again in 2026!
